United Way to Kickoff 2017 Community Drive

Believe it or not, the 2017 United Way Community Drive is just around the corner! Team United has been working diligently to get everything prepared - from crunching numbers for our workplace campaigns, hosting Employee Campaign Coordinator Trainings and getting back together with our marketing and resource development committees to begin strategizing. We’ll spend our days designing brochures, diving into some account planning, and gearing up for the day that starts it all – campaign kickoff! And this year we are trying something new—again!

Last year was my first United Way Campaign experience, and it was unlike any other that Southeast Missouri had seen before. The 2016 Community Drive began with United Days of Caring, a weekend-long, hands-on, volunteer engagement event benefiting the major cities in our four-county area.

While our first United Days of Caring (UDOC) was a success, we ultimately decided that it would be to everyone’s benefit to push the event closer to our Celebration Party we host every April. Not only does it coincide with National Volunteer Month, but it also provides our United Way family with an engaging opportunity outside of the typical fall campaign. In April 2018, UDOC will return with even more opportunities for you and your family, friends and colleagues to get involved! Stay on the lookout for more information.

Moving UDOC to the spring meant that we had to head back to the drawing board for our annual campaign kickoff! Ultimately when setting our goals for the year and for this specific event, our staff and executive committee thought it would be beneficial to take a route similar to what many of our nonprofit colleagues are already doing – a luncheon that would meet an important request from our donors.

One of the main things we hear from our donors is their desire to connect with and learn from our partner agencies. Those who are generous enough to invest in our initiatives want to hear from the beneficiaries of those dollars and learn first-hand how they are making a difference in our community. We call this our impact, and we are working hard to provide more information about our impact to our donors while helping our partners!

For our kickoff event on August 24th, businesses and organizations have the opportunity to purchase a table of 8 seats. This includes 6 chairs for company employees and pays for 2 United Way program representatives to come enjoy the event. Not only is it an opportunity to engage with United Way and hear what we’re up to, but it’s also a chance to directly network with one of our partner agencies. Our hope is that we can continue to educate Southeast Missouri on the incredible things we’re doing in the community, but also reengage them and help find fresh volunteer opportunities as well.
